Hale's NFL Picks
How it's done
Hiya. You know there are many handicappers out there who
punch up a computer program and -- bam -- out come picks.
Not Hale. No sirree. Hale pores over gobs and gobs of
data, sifting through trends, match-ups, injuries and recent
performances. He picks winners for most games, and puts them
online by Friday afternoon. Any feedback -- good or bad --
is appreciated.
The Week in Review
Hale correctly picked Week 14's big games, taking
the points with SF and Dallas. He still went over 50%, even though
it was a tough week by his normally lofty standards. Over/unders
were still 6-4, including a last-minute Raider OVER addition that
many of you got in e-mail.
As you may know, Hale predicts ALL sides in e-mail, while putting
the spotlight on 1 or 2 games. Now, many people are fixated by
winning percentage. It's hard to pick all games every week and
remain over 60%(which Hale is, by the way). So, this week, we try
a new format in e-mail. All picks are still there, but only a
handful (7) are recommended while the rest are only included for
your edification and curiosity.
SATURDAY UPDATE: After Saturday's 2 games, Hale's
picks are looking good. The Vikings had fun with the Browns "D,"
while Hale nailed the Cards game: "San Diego will win but not cover."
2-0 on sides entering Sunday's games...
Hale's Updated Picks for Week 15
- Packers - 7:Green Bay is 68% ATS when favored
playing against division rivals, playing outdoors, and on real grass.
Tampa Bay is 3-9 ATS when getting 7-10 points, and 2-7 ATS when
underdog to a top team. Against common opponents, Green Bay scores
12 more points a game, while giving up 1 fewer, on average.
The Packer defense should smother the Buccanner putrid offense,
while Favre has a banner day against the #24 passing defense in the league.
- Jets + 7:New England is laying points at home
again, which means one thing: take the visitor (1-5 ATS this year).
The Patriots are last in the NFL in scoring and fumbles, and near last
in pass completion (#28), pass yards per attempt (#29). On defense,
New England is near last in most all categories. The Jets *still*
boast the #1 pass defense in the NFL; now, if they could only get an offense.
The underachieving Patriots have no business giving up 7 points
here.
- Seattle + 7:: The Broncos are favored again...
- New Orleans/Atlanta UNDER 47
