Sixth Sense

I can't be the only one who saw similarities of this film by Bruce Willis to one of the more famous ones by his ex - Ghost.

I won't give anything away, but let's just say it's a love story that features a penny prominently while a guy talks to people "on the other side." And there's a love story thrown in there.

Still, this is a suspense film. And one with a good story, at that. This is all made possible by the actor who plays the little boy, Haley. This boy can act. His emotions make this whole somewhat improbable premise swallow-able, and take us along for the ride. Sure, Bruce does his sensitive eyes thing, but c'mon... he's Bruce Willis. As a child psychologist? Oh.

There are some really heavy moments where you can cut the tension with a knife. Nothing too violent. The camera-work was almost too artsy in places, the music was powerful, the story good.

There are some plot holes (is there really a way to get dead people to leave you alone when they know you can be their messenger?), but this is one of those movies you have to go back and watch a second time (like Usual Suspects) once you know how it ends.

Good for what it tries to be. Emotional tear-jerking a surprise bonus. An 8.
